I once heard the story of a man who was very critical of his wife. He found faults with everything. He would criticise her hair, what she wore, her make up, the choice of her nail polish. He would complain about the house, the noisy children, the toys on the floor, and will find something wrong with the meals even if everybody thought it was delicious. Nothing was good enough.
One beautiful morning, she made sure she cleaned, cleared, tidied everything, and prepared his favourite meal. She wanted to please her husband with all her heart. She was just finishing up in the kitchen when her husband walked in. He looked around the immaculate house, then he looked up and pointing to the roof (ceiling) he bursts out "just look at that spot on the roof".
Before you judge him, ask yourself "could that be me? Do I fail to see the neat tidy house around me but instead find faults? Am l a critical person?". So often we do not appreciate the beauty all around. Complaining, fault finding, criticising, and gossiping have become a normal part of our life and our society.
Remember "do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. How can you say to your brother, ‘let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” Luke 6:37, 42
